Sherlock Files book report

Hello it's me AH. I have to use AH because my mom says, "you've got to be safe on the internet." This is the BOOK CLAW. It is blog where I write about all of the books I read. I can interview people. I once did one with my grandma. I can also make drawings about my favorite book. Usually I draw a picture with regular paper then I put it in the scanner. After that, my mom helps me put it on the blog. [My mom types what I ask her to write.]

That was just a short thing about my Book Claw. Now to get to the real point. My book is called the SHERLOCK FILES: THE 100-YEAR-OLD SECRET. It is written by Tracy Barrett. She is my friend. The book is about two kids named Xena and Xander.*

This is where it takes place: On Friday, in England, by the hotel. They were playing the game that their Great great great great great great great grandfather Sherlock Holmes (but they do not know that) played. The game is that you try to guess what people's jobs are just by looking at them. When they were playing that game on Friday, a short old man gave them a piece of paper and hurried away. This is what it said: "Go to the Dancing Men and ask for a saucer of milk for your snake, then all will be revealed."

The children figure out that it is a test, and they pass it. Then they find out that they are Sherlock Holmes' ancestors. So they get a casebook with all of the unfinished mysteries of their grandfather, Sherlock Holmes. They come across one about a painting. They try to figure out the mystery about the missing painting. Now if you want to know if they find it out or not, you will have to read the book.

My opinion of this book is that is was great! It sort of unraveled slowly. It has all sorts of twists and turns. You should read this.

The end. Your book buddy, AH

*Yes, I know they sound weird. I'm not a really big fan of their names.

PSEUDONYMOUS BOSCH

Hi. It's AH! I've been gone because I just came home from a very very long vacation. I went to Myrtle Beach and I didn't bring a computer there, so I couldn't write stuff on my blog.

Well...the newest book I've read so far would probably be THE NAME OF THIS BOOK IS SECRET. It is a great story by PSEUDONYMOUS BOSCH. It's about these two kids named Max Ernest and Cass. They try to save a boy named Benjamin Blake from the midnight spa. In the spa, there are two evil people named Dr. L. and Miss Mauvais (I pronounce Moffis--my mom pronounces it Mo-vay, she says it's a French word for BAD!)

I'm reading the next book, IF YOU'RE READING THIS, IT'S TOO LATE. It's not out yet. My mom went to that big book fair that I talked about earlier. I'm on page
198. It's part called "The Legend of Cabbage Face."

I hope Pseudonymous Bosch is reading this. Pseudonymous Bosch, if you are reading this, Xxxx, Xxxxxx, Xxxxx!

JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH

Hello Booklovers! I just read a cool book named JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH. It was about a little boy who had a miserable life with his Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spiker. He had to stay at his two aunt's house. Then an old man gave James some green things about the size of a grain rice. He says that if he eats them he won't have such a miserable life. And whatever thing it sees first gets to have a wonderful life. Then he's so happy that he runs to his house. He's running to his house when he trips over the peach root and the great stuff drops. But when he trips over the peach tree root the bugs eat them and they grow about the size of dog. And they live inside the peach. The peach grows about to the size of a gigantic bomb and the insects live inside of it. And then James sees a little passageway inside of the peach. He sees a centipede, a ladybug, a glow worm, a preying mantis, an earthworm, a spider, and a silk worm. They go on marvelous adventures.

The reason why I like this book is because they travel so many places and there are these people called Cloud Men and it shows you how they make weather.

That's all Book Buddies!

AH reads AUGIE DOGGIE and LOOPY DE LOOP

I'd have to say I just read a book named AUGIE DOGGIE and LOOPY DE LOOP. It's a big comic book and it was published in 1962. I found it my grandma's basement. It was probably my mom's or my aunt's because they used to live there. The main characters were AUGIE DOGGIE and LOOPY. I don't think you can get them in stores. It was a very very good book.

That's all folks!

Grandma loves OTTOLINE too!

Report from the road: AH called to say that she has been reading OTTOLINE to grandma on their roadtrip. Grandma says it a great book and that she really enjoys the great way AH reads her favorite books to others.

AH reads Captain Underpants book

Hi book readers. I just read a cool book called CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS by Dave Pilkey. It's about a guy who turns into a super hero with underpants powers. It's so cool. Underpant powers are veggie powers. It's a double thumbs up book.

This is what I've been doing at my grandma's house. I've been playing with my cousins. I've been on a hike along the river; it was so fun. And I went to the park. Today I'm going to a wedding.

Bye Peeps! Love, AH

It's a dinner a place near Dollywood, where you eat and watch the show. They asked me to chase a chicken in the show, and I won a second-place medal.

I just read a book that my Aunt gave me. It's called OTTOLINE AND THE YELLOW CAT.
I'll write more later...Bye Peeps! AH

Saturday, May 31, 2008

Hi People!

Today is Saturday, May 31. I'm going to write right now, even though it's night time. It's 8:37 pm. I'm going on a little vacation with my grandma. We're going to Dollywood. Everytime I see Dolly, it's like seeing a movie star. Ok, back to the books.

I just figured out my mom's code. The books that she got me from the place with the new books that nobody has seen before are:

Diary of a Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself-Book
Escape of the Mini-Mummy (Who Shrunk Daniel Funk?)
Emmy and the Home for Troubled Girls
If You're Reading This Book It's Too Late (Pseudonymous Bosch)

Oh, there is a new book that I want to tell you about. Well...it's very very very old. It's a very very old book. It's called: "Calvin and Hobbes." It's a comic book. I think I have every single book, I like it so much. I don't think they're selling in stores.

I'm on going on my trip. And I'm going to check in with my mom. She types my blogs because I can't type that well.

Bye bye Folks!

(p.s. I said that because that's what people say on talk shows.)

Super Duper Books!

Secret Message to AH and her friends...The mission was successful! I'm coming home from Los Angeles with many very cool books. You're getting the first look--they don't hit the bookstores until the fall.

You'll be the first to talk about them. So get ready for some interviews, gang!

Here are the titles. (Hint: A=1, Z=26)

1. "5, 13, 13, 25 and the Home for Troubled Girls" (part 2)

2. "4, 9, 1, 18, 25 of a 23, 9, 13, 16, 25/11, 9, 4: Do It Yourself Book"

And those are only the titles that you already know! Several publishers are starting off some amazing new series. I picked up copies of some of the best for your reading pleasure.

Shhh...this is really TOP SECRET. I met Pseudonymous Bosch! He is a very mysterious author, who wrote a very mysterious book. You, HP, SB, and JF may just love it. The title is funny; it's called IF YOU'RE READING THIS, IT'S TOO LATE.

He said that he'd love for you to review it on your blog. He even autographed a copy just for you.

Looks like you have some great summer reading to do, darlin'.

xoxox

(p.s. I'll post a few notes on some of the other great writers I discovered at the Book Expo, once I get some rest. This book business is hard work! )

I'm so jealous!

I am so jealous because my mom gets to go to this place where you get to see books that aren't coming out until 2009. And I really want to see them. But I'm not 8 yet, so I can't go. If I were there, I would look for DIARY OF A WIMPY KID (third book), maybe a sequel to DRAGON RIDER because they made a sequal to INKHEART. And one more, maybe they some POKEMON books! I am so so so so so jealous.

Oh, one more thing. To get interviewed, all you have to do is contact me. There is an email link on the blog. Maybe I can interview you!

Your reading buddy, AH

AH's Mom checks in from LA

As AH reminded me with much conviction, it is entirely NOT FAIR that I get to go to Book Expo without her.  Very true.

AH:  "Why can't kids go?  If they're worried about choking, they should say no kids under three."

AH's mom:  "Can kids choke on books?  How in the world would a baby get DRAGON RIDER in its mouth?"

Endless laughter together, my daughter's giggles sound like a forest brook, the most beautiful sound around.

All choking worries aside, we're going together next year.

JF interviews AH!

JF: Hi, I'm JF. AH is my best friend from school. I'm here at her house having a playdate. Hi AH, what is your favorite book or book series?

AH: My favorite book is DRAGON RIDER.

JF: What is DRAGON RIDER about?

AH: It is about a dragon named Frederick, and a brownie named Sorrel. It's not the kind you eat, it's a magical creature. And a boy named Ben. In Dragon Land, there are humans who are about to flood it. And there is only one place that can save them, a place that humans don't know about. They go on a magical quest to find it. It's called the rim of heaven.

JF: Who are the main characters?

AH: Frederick, Sorrel, Ben, Twigleg, and that's all.

JF: Did you like reading the book?

AH: OF COURSE, it's my FAVORITE. Maybe we could draw pictures of our favorite books and post them. What do you think?

JF: I like it!

AH Interview with JF, 7 and 11/12th years old girl

AH: Hi there, JF. I'd like to interview you about some of your favorite books. First of all, what is your favorite book?

JF: Hmmm...well, I have a favorite series of books called THE MAGIC TREE HOUSE.

AH: What are the main characters?

JF: The main characters are Jack and Annie.

AH: What are Jack and Annie like?

JF: Jack and Annie are brother and sister, and they like to go exploring.

AH: Why is it called THE MAGIC TREE HOUSE?

JF: It's called THE MAGIC TREE HOUSE because in the first book, Annie finds a little tree house in a big oak tree in the woods. And then she calls Jack to come to the woods.

AH: Well, what happens inside the tree house?

JF: Inside the magic tree house, they were looking at some books, and then Jack finds a book and he says, I wish I could see those dinosaurs and then the tree house starts spinning faster and faster. And then they're back in the dinosaur land.

AH: That's very interesting. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

JF: Well, I don't know what to say...

AH: OK. Well that's all folks.

AH's Mom heads to Book Expo

AH and I love to go to Costco on the weekends. We work our way through the aisles, sampling various delectables in bitesize servings. There's a strategy to it. Start in the back--at the cold items. That's where the cheese nibbles and lobster spread are. Over by the frozen items, that's where you'll find the sweets.

I'm headed to LA in the morning with my friend Lauren. It's all about books, books, and more books. All I hear is that I should wear comfortable shoes and bring a sturdy backpack for pre-release ARCs and autographed books. Sounds like it's dessert all around!

AH's introduction

Hi! I'm AH, which stands for my name, which I'm not telling. You might have heard of me. I'm the one who reads like crazy. I am seven years old and my favorite book is DRAGON RIDER. My mom is a professor. I think that is an awesome job. I hope you enjoy our website that we are making together. Have you heard of the Book Claw? Look at what my mom wrote. It tells you what it is. I drew a picture of it too. Sincerely, your reading buddy...AH

The Book Claw

My daughter has a dream invention. It's called the Book Claw. Here's the idea: you think about which book you'd like to read, send a silent mental message out, and the Book Claw does the rest of the work. Want to read Tracy Barrett's SHERLOCK FILES? Presto chango, the Book Claw locates the nearest library copy, clasps the book in its metal prongs, and speeds through the sky to deliver it to you in seconds. Clonk, the book drops in your lap. I have something like that of my own, too. I call it the UPS guy. He's not as fast as the Book Claw, but almost!

AH and I spent 3 delicious hours in Borders today. One of our best buddies, Marvin, is manager of the store. In our minds, that makes him a rock star!

My daughter and I wandered around the store and gathered up a stack of books. Back in the coffee shop, we settled in for a long summer's read. AH devoured Roald Dahl's FANTASTIC MR. FOX--all of it, right there. She let out a delighted gasp toward the end:
"This is a wonderful book, Mommy."
